Food and Drugs Board destroys seized-goods worth GH¢52,000

The Eastern and Volta Zonal office of the Food and Drugs Board (FDB) on Thursday destroyed some seized drugs, cosmetics and foods valued at GH¢52,587.15 at Bakpe near Ho.

The value of drugs and cosmetics destroyed stood at GHc29,895.55 with that of food items being GH¢22,691.60 seized in the Volta region in 2011.

Mr Roderick Daddey-Adjei, Eastern and Volta Zonal Officer told the Ghana News Agency that the goods were either not registered, had expired or were fake.

“Most of the items we consume are contaminated” he observed.

Mr Daddey-Adjei said sachet water for instance was heavily contaminated as most of it stored in cages was mostly in contact with the floor or the ground and exposed to the   heat of the sun.

Mr Daddey-Adjei hinted that the Board would soon clamp down on sachet water vendors who did not observe the proper methods of storing the water.

We’ve told them this all the time and now we have to take action,” he said.

Mr Daddey-Adjei advised the public to be cautious of what they consumed.
