Unemployed graduates build competencies in entrepreneurship
A five-day fair to facilitate the opening up of business opportunities for young entrepreneurs and the nation’s growing unemployed graduates has opened in Kumasi.
It would among other things build their competencies and expose them to best business practices, markets and marketing, financial planning and how to improve their business plans.
The programme is being jointly organised by the Ministries of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) and Employment and Social Welfare.
The fair is part of measures by the MLGRD to promote local economic development through self-employment, innovation and creativity, particularly among the youth.
Dr Esther Offei-Aboagye, Director of the Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS), underscored the need for strengthening the capacities of assemblies and decentralised departments to enable them engage with and support young people to become self-employed.
The Institute, she said, is undertaking an assessment exercise to provide relevant baseline information and generate ideas from young people and their respective associations on effective ways to tackle the challenges facing them.
Dr Offei-Aboagye advised graduates and young entrepreneurs to patronize capacity-building workshops to broaden their knowledge and optimise business opportunities.
She said in the face of the high unemployment rate it is imperative for graduates to take entrepreneurship skills training seriously to make life worth living for them.
Mr Bernard Joe Appeah, a Business Consultant, urged entrepreneurs to adopt good business practices to sustain their livelihood.
