FDB to close down businesses of uncertified water sachet producers

The Food and Drugs Board (FDB) has warned sachet water producers in Eastern Region to abide by the directives of the Board in the production of water for public consumption otherwise their businesses would be closed.

Mr George Penstil, the Eastern Regional Director of the FDB said, his outfit would not allow people to compromise the safety of the public in the name of business and livelihood.

He was speaking at a meeting with sachet water producers in the Region at Koforidua over the weekend  to announce the presence of the FDB in the Eastern Region and also to educate members of the sachet water production business on  public safety.

Mr Penstil said the FDB had also noted that there were many uncertified sachet water products on the market saying they compromised water quality and the safety of consumers.

He announced that the FDB would embark on an operation to check all facilities being used for the production of sachet water to ensure that they meet the acceptable standards.

According to Mr Penstil, the FDB has been  mandated to ensure that water, foods, drugs and other consumables for the public are safe and stressed that the FDB would not compromise its integrity to favour any person or goods.

He warned against  the  display of sachet water in the sun by both the distributors and sellers, saying the FDB would soon move against those bad practices.
