Ex-international stars to storm Ghana for GLO-CAF Awards

Former Nigeria international footballer, Austin Jay-Jay Okocha is expected to be part of dignitaries that will grace the 2011 GLO-CAF Awards to be staged in Ghana on Friday, December 23 at the Banquet Hall, State House, Accra.

Okocha has been nominated by CAF for the Legends Awards after an illustrious career that saw him command a regular playing place in the Super Eagles squad that dominated the continent and made a significant impact on the world stage.

The former captain of the Super Eagles, who also had a distinguished playing career with Einthract Frankfurt FC of Germany, Fernabache of Turkey, Paris St Germain of France and Bolton Wanderers of England, also won the 1997 African Footballer of the Year award.

Okocha would be receiving the award alongside former Moroccan international Moustapha Hadji.

Also expected to join the glamorous event are Victor Ikpeba, a former Nigerian international and a host of other former players of Super Eagles.

CAF, in partnership with communications giants, Globacom Ghana will on December 23, confer honours on distinguished footballers and other stakeholders.

Notable among the list of categories is the African Footballer of the Year award which has Andre Ayew – Ghana, Samuel Eto’o – Cameroon, Seydou Keita- Mali, Moussa Sow of Senegal and Yaya Toure  of Cote d’Ivoire, vying for the enviable award.
