Give premium to development of school’s infrastructure – Prof. Nkum

The Provost of the College of Science, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Professor Robert Nkum, has urged the Government to give premium to the improvement of infrastructure in schools.

He called for the creation of the right environment to promote effective teaching and learning.

Prof. Nkum was addressing the fourth speech and prize-giving day of the Nsutaman Senior High School (SHS) at Nsuta in the Sekyere Central District.

“Infrastructure development in education, a prerequisite tool for quality education in Ghana”, was the theme.

Prof. Nkum said the essential role of education to the socio-economic progress of the individual, community and society could not be discounted and this explained why more resources should be invested in it.

He called on all stakeholders to accept to play their expected roles well to bring about quality education.

The Headmaster, Dr Raphael Osei-Adu, said the school’s performance in the West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) has been impressive.

This, he said, had been due to the high level of discipline among both students and the teachers.

He praised the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) for its tremendous support for the school.

The association has not only provided the school with an underground water tank, it was in addition building two bungalows to accommodate the teaching staff.

The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) was also constructing an Information Communication Technology (ICT) centre for the school.

The SHS has a population of 2,500 students, made up of 1,282 boys and 1,218 girls.
