Private Estate Developing Company to build housing units in Dangme East.

Construction work on a five-year housing project in the Shai Hills would start in January next year, Dr. Eric Tetteh, Chief Executive Officer of Gilead Land and Real Estate Developers Company, initiators of the project, has said.

He told journalists at a ground-breaking ceremony at the project site on Thursday that 7,000 housing units would be built during the period.

Dr. Tetteh said the company had acquired a 2,000-acre land around the Eastern Quarries in the Shai Hills and that seed money of one billion dollars would be sunk into the project and gave an assurance that the company would employ the local people with the requisite skills.

Dr. Rev. Leona Crosse, of the Leona Crosse International Ministries in the United States, and global partners of the project, said he was grateful that apart from giving employment to the youth, the project would also empower them.

Dr. Crosse urged people in the community to remain united and give support the project to ensure its smooth take-off and successful completion.

Mr Doku Madjitey, Project Consultant, said the project would consist of place of worship, police station, schools, playing grounds, market square, football fields and shopping mall.

Nene Lartey Akoto the Seventh, Acting President of Hiowe Divisional Council and Standing Committee Member of the Shai Traditional Council, expressed the community’s appreciation to the company for initiating the project.

Nene Akoto appealed to the youth to take advantage of the project and get employed, instead of idling and indulging in anti-social vices.
