LESDEP to train 2000 people in Brong-Ahafo

Brong-Ahafo Regional Secretariat of Local Enterprises and Skill Development Programme (LESDEP) is to train and equip about 2000 persons in various trades and vocations to enable them to start their own businesses.

The beneficiaries would learn trades including dressmaking, barbering and hairdressing, catering, mobile phone repairing and information and technology (ICT) development centers.

Mr Isaac Owusu Asante, Brong-Ahafo Regional LESDEP Coordinator, announced this at a one day entrepreneurship workshop organised for some 47 entrepreneurs in Nkoranza South Municipality.

The participants were taken through topics as “Good customer care practices”, “Basic financial record keeping, “Importance of banking and savings” and “Loan development plan and management”.

Mr Asante said Government had decided to include 20,000 youth under the LESDEP training programme before the end of next year, so that more unemployed youth would be self-employed.

He stressed the need for the entrepreneurs and participants to expand their business activities and to allow more youth to be trained in support of the success of the LESDEP Project.

Mr Benjamin Kwasi Marfo, Head of the Business Advisory Centre (BAC) in Wenchi Municipality, appealed to the participants to exhibit humility and cordiality at their work places and with customers.

He said he was unhappy with the negative practice by some workers who contract loans and spend them on frivolous items and advised the participants to develop a business work plan before contracting a loan.

The Nkoranza South Municipal Coordinator of LESDEP, Mr Stephen Owusu-Ansah, called on the unemployed youth to offer to train as apprentices to enable them to acquire skills and knowledge in various vocations to become self-employed.
