District Assembly to increase Community Assistance Fund to 50%

The Prestea Huni/Valley District has decided to increase the Community Assistance Fund allocated to assembly members to about 50 per cent, to empower them to initiate more projects through communal labour.

Mr Robert Wisdom Cudjoe, District Chief Executive (DCE) made this known at the assembly’s third general meeting which was held in Bogoso in the Western Region on Thursday.

He said the assembly used to give out GH¢1,200 yearly to the assembly members to enable them execute development projects.

The DCE said the increment is aimed at augmenting government’s efforts at promoting development at the community level.

He said the time has come for the district to quicken the pace of development in the electoral areas.

Mr Cudjoe said even though there has been delay in the disbursement of the 2012 allocation of the Community Assistance Fund, it would be provided after the meeting to enable members to execute their priority projects.

He said considering the critical role of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in strategic management and development, the assembly has decided to establish ICT centres in specific locations within the district.

Mr Cudjoe said the centres would enable teachers of basic schools to update their skills in ICT in order to impact the knowledge to the youth.

He said the assembly would integrate ICT in to its financial and project management processes through a reliable internal communication network system to promote transparency, accountability, integrity and good governance.
