US to announce winners of Apps4Africa competition for West & Central Africa

The US government will on Wednesday December 7, 2011 announce winners of the Apps4Africa competition for West and Central Africa in which Ghana is included, according to a press invitation issued by the US Embassy in Accra, Ghana.

The invitation said the event will demonstrate “how, through the global Adaptation Partnership and the Apps4Africa programme, the United States is working with partners to bring together practitioners, policy-makers, and African technology innovators in West, East and Southern Africa to strengthen food security and protect marine resources in the face of climate change as well as to ensure the delivery and uptake of user-driven climate information services.”

The side event, officials say will showcase lessons learned and good practices from West Africa as well as winners of the Apps4Africa technology innovation competition in particular.

It will also briefly highlight efforts in East and Southern Africa, the Embassy said.

Speakers for the function, the invitation indicated are Aaron Fishman, Regional Environment, Science and Technology Officer, U.S. Embassy Ghana; Marieme Jamme, CEO of SpotOneGlobalSolutions and Jon Gosier of Appfrica International.
