40 trained apprentices receive GH¢24,800 worth start-up kits

Forty people in the Asante-Akim South District who have completed  training in various vocations under the Rural Enterprises Project (REP) have been presented with tools and start-up kits valued at GH¢24,800.00 to establish their own businesses.

This was after they had passed an examination by the National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI).

The beneficiaries are into masonry, carpentry, hair-dressing, electrical, auto-mechanics, dress-making, welding and other trades.

The training was facilitated by the Business Advisory Centre (BAC).

Mr Aikins Agyapong, the District Head of the BAC, said this was part of the effort at helping to fight poverty, particularly, among women in rural areas.

He said so far they had trained 1,300 women in soap making, batik-tie-and-dye, hair products and grass-cutter rearing and appealed to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the district to take advantage of the BAC to grow their businesses.

Mr De-graft Fokuo, the District Chief Executive,  said the intervention was meant to reduce the difficulties trained apprentices go through in setting up their own businesses.

He said the assembly would continue to collaborate with the REP and the BAC to create job opportunities for the youth, adding that, a bamboo service centre was being built at Obogu.
