Parliament to rise sine die on December 21

Mr Cletus Apul Avoka, Majority Leader, on Thursday announced that the House was expected to rise sine die on Wednesday, December 21, 2011.

He said due to the importance and sensitivity of the Presidential Transition Bill, it has been shelved for the House to have enough time to scrutinise it, in addition to other bills that are before it.

Mr Avoka was presenting the business statement of Parliament for the seventh week ending Friday December 9.

He said the House would savour Christmas Carols Night on December 20 and rise on December 21, for the Christmas and New Year holidays.

Mr Avoka said the virtual conclusion of questions during the week was intended to afford the House much time to debate the financial policy of the Government for 2012 and estimates of the Ministries, Departments and Agencies(MDAs) as well as other urgent Parliamentary business.

He noted that the schedule for submission of committee reports and debate of annual estimates for 2012 of MDAs would begin on Wednesday, December 7.

Committees on Youth and Sports, Water Resources, Works and Housing, National Labour Commission, Finance, Justice, Employment and Social Welfare, Environment, Science and Technology, Lands and Natural Resources are to submit their reports on Thursday, December 8.

According to the Majority Leader, reports by the Ministries of Health, Education, National Development Planning Commission, Government Machinery, Tourism, Transport, Chieftaincy and Culture, Public Service Commission, Audit Service and District Assemblies Common Fund Administrator, should be submitted on Friday, December 9.

Ministries of Defence, Food and Agriculture, Interior, CHRAJ, Electoral Commission, NCCE, National Media Commission, Revenue Agencies, Parliament and other government obligations are to be submitted on Monday, December 12.

The Appropriation Bill and other financial bills are to be submitted on December 19, other business of the House including bills would be considered alongside the annual estimates for 2012.

Mr Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, Minority Leader, asked Chairmen of the various Committees to submit reports within the given schedule.
