Fulani herdsmen killed 12 persons in 18 months in Eastern Region – Police

A total of twelve people were murdered by Fulani herdsmen in various parts of the Eastern in a period of 18 months.

Besides the murders, the Police in the Region also recorded many rape and defilement cases against women and children by the Fulani herdsmen whiles many acres of farmlands and produce were destroyed by their cattle.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Kwabena Gyamera Yeboah, Eastern Regional Police Commander told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at a briefing on the security situation in the Region.

He added that the records were those that had been reported and that there were several cases, which could not be traced.

ACP Gyamera Yeboah mentioned Kwahu, Nkawkaw and the Begoro as places where the Fulani herdsmen conducted their activities and caused a lot of atrocities.

He said apart from the activities of the Fulani herdsmen, which were gaining grounds and posing security threat, there had been a general reduction in the crime wave in the area particularly armed robbery.

ACP Gyamera Yeboah mentioned fatal accident as another security threat and said in four years, the Region had placed third in the national accident statistics.

He cited Osino, Apedwa, Bunso and Nkawkaw as the accident prone areas.

ACP Gyamera Yeboah assured that the Police in curbing crimes including the Fulani activities, had strengthened its operation to protect lives and livelihoods.
