United Nations to hold conference on debt management

The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) will be holding its 8th debt management conference in Geneva, Switzerland.

The conference, themed “UNCTAD Debt Crises: Learning From The Past and Present, and Preparing for the Future” will begin from November 14  to 16, 2011.

In a statement copied to ghanabusinessnews.com, UNCTAD said some of the topics for discussions are; Principles for Promoting Responsible Sovereign Lending and Borrowing; Rising Debt of the Developed World and Implications for Developing Countries; Debt Resolution Mechanisms: Should there be a Statutory Mechanism for Resolving Debt Crises?; and Debt Management and Public Financial Management among others.

UNCTAD’s Secretary-General, Mr. Supachai Panitchpakdi will make an open statement with His Excellency Mr. Ólafur Ragnar Grìmsson, President of the Republic of Iceland delivering an introductory note.
