IOC endorses Prof. Dodoo led Ghana Olympic Committee

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has endorsed the election of Professor Francis Dodoo as the newly elected president of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC).

This was contained in a letter jointly signed by Pere Miro, National Olympic Committee (NOC) Relations Director and General Lassana Palenfo President of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) to the president elect Professor Dodoo and Secretary General Richard Akpokavie.

According to the letter which was made available to the GNA Sports, it said “in view of the documents and reports from the IOC/ANOCA representative Joao Manuel Da Costa Alegre Afonso, we wish to inform you that the IOC and ANOCA has taken noted of the outcome and results of the Elective General Assembly which took place on October 29.

“We wish to congratulate you on the election to the position of President and Secretary-General of the GOC.

“We would be grateful if you could extend our congratulations to all members of the Executive Committee elected on that day”. The letter stated.

It added that, “we are hoping that with the conclusion of the process, your NOC and the entire Olympic movement and sports in Ghana, can now join forces in a constructive and efficient manner to entirely focus on the development of sports in Ghana and preparations of athletes towards the London 2012 Olympic Games”.

According to the letter, the IOC and ANOCA will do everything possible to assist the GOC towards the development of sports in Ghana.

The endorsement of the IOC is likely to end the two years of leadership struggle at the GOC.
