One driver dies, 13 Ivoirians seriously injured in car crash

A thirty-six-year-old driver, Yaw Opoku died on the spot while 13  Ivoirians were seriously injured in an accident at Supormu-Dunkwa in the Shama District of the Western Region on Thursday.

Confirming the incident to the Ghana News Agency, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Daniel Dzakah said the accident occurred at 0200 hours early in the morning.

He said the deceased, fell asleep while driving a Ford car with registration number GW 8356U from Accra towards Takoradi.

He said the Ford car hit the rear of an articulated truck loaded with cement and heading towards Cape Coast, and somersaulted several times before landing in the bush.

DSP Dzakah said the driver of the Ford car got stuck in the vehicle when it landed in the bush and died instantly while the 13 Ivorian nationals on board sustained various degrees of injuries and were rushed to the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital.

The corpse of the deceased has been deposited at the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital pending autopsy.

The driver of the articulated truck is assisting the police in their investigations.
