Western Regional Educational Trust Fund re-launched

Mr Paul Evans Aidoo, Western Regional Minister, has re-launched the Regional Educational Trust Fund at Takoradi.

Some 23 students from various tertiary institutions were presented with scholarship awards while six individuals and organisations including Kosmos Energy, the Western Regional Coordinating council and the Takoradi International Company were presented with plaques at ceremony.

Mr Aidoo expressed the hope that the fund would assist to train more indigenes to improve the human resources base of the region.

He appealed to the beneficiaries to work hard to justify their selection and not to turn their backs on the region on completion of their courses.

Mr Aidoo urged the contributors to the fund not to relent in their efforts and called on more institutions to aid the fund adding that the fund would cover all administrative and political districts in the region.

Nana Adu Gyamfi, Chairman of the Fund, warned that the scholarship awards would be withdrawn from beneficiaries if they failed to perform creditably.

Reverend Professor Daniel Nyarko, Rector of the Takoradi Polytechnic, said the re-launch of the fund showed the commitment of the leadership of the region to improve the educational standards and provide the youth with the relevant skills for the development of the region and the country.

He appealed to the youth in the region to return to their classrooms instead of engaging in galamsey activities.

Nana Kobina Nketsia V, Omanhene of Essikado Traditional Area, who presided over the function, called for transparency in the award of scholarships by the fund and suggested that the names of beneficiaries should be published for all to see.
