Former President J. A. Kufuor has dedicated his World Food Prize to Ghanaians.

An elated Kufuor who received the award Thursday October 13, 2011 at the State Capitol in Iowa, USA said during his acceptance speech that it was because Ghanaians elected him to serve them, that he had the opportunity to achieve the honor.

“I want to dedicate this award to all Ghanaians. Because if they hadn’t elected me to serve them in that capacity I wouldn’t have achieved this,” he said.

He therefore thanked Ghanaians and the selecting committee of the World Food Prize.

Former President Lula da Silva of Brazil, a joint winner of the award called on the rich to help the poor.

Citing a programme in Brazil through which his government gave money to the poor, but was criticised, he said that programme lifted many out of poverty and improved their standard of living.
