Kufuor takes prestigious World Food Prize today

Ghana’s former President John Agyekum Kufuor, will today October 13, 2011 receive the prestigious World Food Prize jointly with former Brazilian President Lula da Silva and become World Food Prize Laureates.

And for the first time in the history of the awards which is seen to rival the Nobel Prize, over 800 guests will witness the event, in the State Capitol in Des Moines, Iowa State, USA.

In its 25th year the World Food Prize is the foremost international award recognizing  – without regard to race, religion, nationality, or political believes – the achievements of individuals who have advanced human development by improving the quality, quantity, or availability of food in the world, some material in the event information pack says.

Other laureates will include David Beckmann, president of Bread for the World, and Jo Luck, president of Heifer International,  for their extraordinary leadership of two of the leading grassroots hunger-fighting organizations in the world, orgainsers have said.
