Ghana, Nigeria in 0-0 draw in friendly

Ghana’s Black Stars and their Nigerian counterparts settled for a barren draw in an international friendly on Tuesday at the Vicarage Road Stadium in London, England.

Stars Coach Goran Stevanonic made six changes to the squad that beat Sudan in their final 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Omdurman over the weekend that sealed their ticket for next year’s event.

There were starting roles for left-back Massawudu Alhassan, Mohamed Abu of Norwegian side Stromsgodset, Quincy Owusu-Abeyie, Albert Adomah and forward Prince Tagoe.

The Stars controlled the game in the early stages whilst the Super Eagles, still counting the losses of their failure to qualify for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations for the first time since 1986 gradually warmed themselves into the game.

Nigeria Midfielder Fegor Ogude had the best chance at goal with a long range effort that kissed the crossbar with Ghana goalie Adam Larsen Kwarasey completely beaten.

Despite their dominance in midfield, the Stars had nothing to show on the score cards.

The second half was a balanced game as both teams introduced fresh limbs into the game.

Striker Asamoah Gyan, Sulley Muntari, Samuel Inkoom, Emmanuel Agyemang Badu and Lee Addy also had their turns but their presence was little enough to alter the score line.

It was the second the two teams were meeting in London after 2007 which the Stars won 4-1.
