UK school supports Wechiau L.A School in Upper West region

The St. John Fisher Catholic School in the United Kingdom has presented items to Wechiau Local Authority Junior High School at Wechiua in the Wa West District of the Upper West Region under a project dubbed: “Teens and Dreams”.

The items included: Stationery (books, pens, pencils, and games), 160 mosquito nets, 70 bicycles, five laptops.

A statement issued jointly signed by Mahama Muniru Cosmos, Chief Executive Officer of Ndewuara Tour and Amasaba A-Y Aluizah, Press Liaison on Saturday said the delegation from the UK visited all the regions except the Upper East Region.

The visit was facilitated by Ndewura Tours, a Tamale base tourism firm, that combined tourism with advocacy.

The statement said Ndewuara Tour believed that the only way to protect the environment and enhanced sustainable development was through eco-tourism.

It said the purpose of the visit was to strengthen the six years relationship between the two schools, study and familiarize with the culture of the people, examine already sponsored projects, and also to hike on the Black Volta River to watch the magnificent hippopotamus.

It said the stationery items were to enhance the teaching and learning process of the students, while the mosquito nets were to protect them from mosquito bites, thus keeping them healthy and eventually sustain regular attendance to school.

“Majority of the bicycle should be given to the female students, especially those who trek long distances to and fro school,” it added.

The statement said the headmaster of the school was grateful to the delegation for their support to promote teaching and learning in the community while enhancing good health care.

The bikes according to the headmaster would improve girl-child school attendance and for the laptops it would boost the computer skills of students and teachers.

“The chief for the area tasked the teachers to promote good learning atmosphere in order to produce the needed human resource for the community and the whole country,” it said.
