Tema Hospital needs expansion – Dr Sarpong
Mrs Irene Naa Torshie Addo, Member of Parliament for Tema West, has appealed to the business community within the Metropolis to help address the numerous problems facing the Tema General Hospital.
She said since its inception on the 1950s, the hospital has not had any major renovation.
Mrs Addo said this when together with the assembly members in the Tema West Constituency paid a familiarization visit to the hospital.
She said “the hospital is a life-saving institution and all hands must be on deck to help save it.”
Mrs Addo appealed to stakeholders to act with urgency and make financial contributions to the hospital adding that there was the need to establish an endowment fund to help address emergencies whenever they occurred.
Dr Charity Sarpong, Medical Director of the Hospital, said because of the rapid increase of the population within the Metropolis, the hospital was being overstretched and could not meet all demands.
Dr Sarpong said the hospital needed to be expanded so that it could cope with the numerous challenges facing it.
