Dr Osei Kofi Darkwa, President of the Ghana Telecom University College (GTUC), on Saturday called on students to be critical thinkers and innovators to meet the developmental needs of the country.

He said the ability to change poverty and despair into opportunities lay in the potential to harness knowledge acquired at the university.

Dr Darkwa was speaking at the Ninth Matriculation ceremony organised by GTUC in Accra where 492 students, including 117 females, were admitted to pursue diploma and degree programmes.

He charged the students to be courageous, diligent and self-confident to overcome challenges they might face in their course of study.

Dr Darkwa said: “You are here to make something large and important and valuable in your life. To become an engineer, and ICT guru, a business administrator, a professional deserving of respect and the good life that comes with good work and its rewards.

“If you take your studies seriously, this purpose will be realized and you will become the professional that you dream to become.”

Dr Darkwa pledged the commitment of the university to support students to realise their potentials.

Miss Keturah Korley, a matriculant, expressed gratitude to management of the university for providing expanded hostel facilities to reduce accommodation challenges.

She gave the assurance that the newly-admitted students would behave well to merit the confidence the university authority had reposed in them.
