Communities appeal for completion of electrification

The chiefs and people of 21 communities in the Agona East District have appealed to the government to complete a Rural Electrification Project that has been abandoned for the past four years.

Nana Kofi Andam, chief of Agona Asamoakrom, Nana Kwesi Paitoo of Agona Soromanya and Nana Acquah, chief of Agona Kwafedzi made the appeal on behalf of their colleagues when the Member of Parliament for the area, Mr John Kwesi Agyabeng, visited three out of 21 Communities as part of his tour of the Constituency.

The chiefs said work on the project started in 2007 but had come to a standstill and appealed to the government to complete it.

At Asamoakrom, Nana Kofi Andam appealed to the Ghana Highways Authority to erect speed ramps as a matter of urgency in the town.

Mr Agyabeng said the previous government started the electrification project and tarring of feeder roads in the communities to open the area.

He said a follow up he made to the Ministry of Energy on the project showed that there was no money to continue it but added that the government was in the process of securing a loan facility outside the country to complete it.

Mr Agyabeng said the Ministry assured him that the loan facility would be laid before Parliament for consideration when Parliament resumes sitting.
