Steel bender jailed four years for stealing underground cables
A 28-year-old steel bender was on Wednesday sentence to four years imprisonment by an Accra Circuit court for stealing underground cables that transmitted power to the Achimota overhead traffic light.
Daniel Yeboah pleaded guilty to stealing and causing unlawful damage to Achimota underground traffic light cables valued at GH¢4,000.
The court presided over by Mrs Patience Tetteh-Mills sentenced the accused to 100 penalty units fine or in default serve four years imprisonment.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Ben Darfour told the court that the complainant, Mr Bernard Arhin was a driver at Achimota while the accused was a steel bender at Aboafu, a suburb of Accra.
He said on the dawn of September 15 this year, the accused was found by the complainant stealing the cables which transmitted power to the Achimota overhead traffic light.
Chief Inspector Darfour explained that a visit to the scene revealed that the accused had disconnected power to the Achimota traffic light cutting six lines of the underground cable in an attempt to steal.
