Nkoranza South District schools to benefit from GH¢700,000 USAID borehole project

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is supporting the Government of Ghana to construct a borehole each for schools in Nkoranza South District.

The project is part of Ghana Education Service development project dubbed: “The Pilot Programme Scheme (PPS)”, designed to promote education in deprived communities.

The beneficiary schools are at Akropong, Makyinmabre, Kyeredeso, Chechewere, Asonkwaa, Akuma and Nankuma.

Mr. Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, Nkoranza South District Chief Executive cut the sod at Akropong for work on the project to commence.

He commended USAID for assisting Ghana to implement development programmes in the country.

Mr. Agyekum said that one borehole would cost about GH¢100,000.00.

He advised authorities of the beneficiary schools to ensure that boreholes were properly handled to ensure their longer lifespan.

Mr Agyekum called on the drilling company, Galaxy Drilling Limited, Ghana, to deliver good quality work to gain the trust and confidence of government.

Mr. Adolf Osei Gyamfi, geologist of Macambros Company Limited in Accra, contractor in-charge of the project, said the company would construct boreholes in Nkoranza North district.

Madam Philippa Banson, Nkoranza South District Director of Education, asked School Management Committees, Parents/Teacher Associations and opinion leaders of beneficiary school communities to ensure the regular maintenance of the boreholes.

Mr. Yaw Besea-Badu, head teacher of Akropong Presbyterian Primary School, commended the District Directorate of Education for including the school in the borehole project.
