Alban Bagbin

Mr Alban Bagbin, Minister of Water Resources Works and Housing, has said the Ministry was working with the Energy Ministry to improve power supply to the Agona Kwanyako Water Works to ensure regular water supply.

He said getting constant water supply to the more than 50 communities that depend on the Kwanyako Dam is one of the priorities of the Government.

Mr Bagbin announced this at a durbar of Chiefs and People of Agona Kwanyako to climax their annual Akwambo Festival at Kwanyako in the Agona East District of the Central Region, on Saturday.

He said plans were far advanced to dredge and de-silt the Ayensu River headwork to ensure constant pumping of water to the people.

He cautioned the people to stop polluting the drains and river bodies to avoid floods but carefully handle them towards sustaining their livelihoods.

Brigadier Nunoo Mensah, Security Advisor to President Mills, commended the chiefs and the people for organizing the festival to take stock of their past and plan for the coming years to improve their lot.

He said the government was working hard to pool resources to undertake more infrastructural development.

Nana Ampim Darko V, chief of the town and Kyidomhene of Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area, appealed to the government to help improve infrastructure at the Kwanyako Senior High School to enhance effective teaching and learning.

He also appealed to the government with the Agona East District Assembly to complete the foot bridge being constructed over River Ayensu to ensure smooth passage by farmers to their farms at the other end of the river.

Meanwhile, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the New Patriotic Party’s Presidential Candidate for the 2012 polls, was prevented by Police Personnel from going round to greet the chiefs and those on the dais by police personnel, because according security sources, he arrived late at the durbar ground.

Mr John Kwesi Agyabeng, NPP MP for Agona East, said Nana Akufo-Addo was invited by the Chief of Agona Kwanyako, Nana Ampim Darko V and Nana Okofo Katakyi Nyakoh Eku X, Omanhene of Nyakrom Traditional Area, to attend the durbar.

Nana Akufo-Addo was accompanied by Mr Isaac Edumadze, a former Central Regional Minister, Mr Stephen Asamoah Boateng, a former Minister of Information, Mr Boakye Agyarko, his Campaign Manager and Lord Commey, Operations Manager and some NPP activists.
