Asokwa Mutual Health Scheme registers 158,000 members

The Asokwa Office of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in Kumasi, has within the past five years registered 158,000 members.

Eighteen thousand of the members, who were more than 70 years old, had been exempted from payment of the premium.

Mr Daniel Frempong, Scheme Manager, told the Ghana News Agency that officials of the scheme would visit institutions, markets and the churches to convince people to register with the scheme.

He said the NHIS had impacted positively on the lives of the people, promoting equitable and universal access to quality health care.

Mr Frempong asked scheme members to renew their insurance cards annually to enable them to continue to receive free medical care.
