26 primary schools to benefit from School Feeding Programme in Eastern Region

Twenty–six additional primary schools in the Kwaebibirem District of the Eastern Region will from October benefit from the School Feeding Programme (GSFP).

Briefing the press at Kade, the District Chief Executive, Mr E.R Aboagye Osae, said government has extended the first phase of the GSFP for one more year during which some re-organization would take place to address some of the challenges of the program.

He said one such challenge had been the poor targeting of beneficiary communities resulting in the selection of relatively affluent communities which was contrary to the selection criteria.

Mr Osae said the re-organization of the programme sought to correct the errors in the past so as to achieve the objective of the programme.

He said in a meeting with the Kwaebibirem District Implementation Committee of the GSFP, it was decided that in accordance with the selection criteria that, Asuom Presbyterian Primary A, B, and C and Kade Presbyterian Primary A and B would cease to be beneficiary schools of the program.

He said Takyimang Presbyterian Primary, Kade Salvation Primary A and B and Anweaso L/A Primary Schools would continue to be part of the program.

Mr Osae said schools with low school enrolment, high dropout rate, low literacy levels, high hunger and vulnerability status, poor access to potable water and high communal spirit, would be considered for the program.

He said amongst such schools include Apampatia, Essienkyem, Koka, Afiefiso, Aboaboso, Kwae Adiembra, Mallam Nkwanta, Akenkanor, Kukubi, Dokyi, Akenkase and Senya L /A primary schools.

Others are Subriso Presbyterian, Dompim Methodist, Akyem Krobo Zion, Mpeasem L/A, Old Ntronang and Pramkuma L/A primary schools.

The rest are Kwamang RC, Akawani L/A, Sakyikrom L/A, Adekyensu L/A, Kade Islamic and Otumi Presbyterian A and B primary schools.

Mr Osae said in view of the re-organization exercise, feeding of pupils for this term would start in October.

He invited applications from interested people for the position of school caterers in the new beneficiary schools adding that as part of the re-organization, a caterer would feed a maximum of 500 pupils.
