A galamsey operator, Benjamin Appiah, 21, has been fined GH¢480 by a Tarkwa circuit court for unlawfully entering the Goldfields Ghana Limited’s concession at Tarkwa.

In default, he would be imprisoned for six months. He pleaded guilty.

Prosecuting Police Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel Obeng Diawuo that the complainants were security men of Goldfields Ghana Limited while the accused person resides at Mankessim near Tarkwa.

Detective Amponsah said on September 12, at about 1200 hours, the complainants were on their normal patrol duties and on reaching Akontansi pit in the company’s concession they spotted the accused person carrying a sack containing gold bearing stones.

He said the accused person on seeing the security men abandoned the sack and its content and took to his heels.

The Prosecutor said the accused was chased and arrested.

Detective Amponsah said the accused during interrogation admitted the offence in his caution statement and was charged accordingly.
