Entitlements to athletes at All Africa Games paid – Sports Authority

The National Sports Authority (NSA) has said all entitlements due athletes at the 10th All Africa Games in Maputo have been paid contrary to speculations that there is discontent in camp.

Worlanyo K. Agra, Director General of the NSA told GNA Sports in Maputo that on arrival in Maputo, each member was paid a flat rate of 500 dollars which is part of the per diem for athletes to cover between 13 and 15 days.

He explained that participants in disciplines such as Boxing, Badminton, Chess, Swimming, Cycling who had completed their events and left Ghana will be paid the rest of their dues on arrival in Ghana.

Agra said members of the Black Bombers, the national boxing team were paid the remaining part of their per diems a day after their arrival in Ghana, whilst Badminton, Swimming and other disciplines which left on Tuesday will also be treated the same way.

According the Director-General, the payment will also include bonuses for athletes who won medals, since the Authority could not carry huge sums of dollars to Maputo, Mozambique, hence the decision to pay them on arrival in Ghana.

Agra added that the NSA has also paid the various officials of the sporting disciplines their allowances, which includes the Presidents and General Secretaries as well as technical officials of the Associations.

He said members of the athletics team will also be paid their entitlements immediately they are done with their events.

“We have made plans to pay them immediately they complete their event on Thursday because some of them will move straight to their bases after the competition.

“So far as I’m concerned, we have taken care of each member of the contingent and there is no cause for alarm”. Agra stated.

Ghana has so far managed seven medals in the 10 day old competition made up of one gold, one silver and five bronze medals, and the country is looking forward to medals in Beach Volleyball, Tae-Kwondo and Disabled Sports.
