CAF to unveil CAN 2012 Mascot on Sept. 16

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that the unveiling of the Mascot of the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations will take place on Saturday in Libreville, Gabon.

A statement on the CAF website culled by GNA Sports in Accra said the unveiling of the mascot tagged, “GaGui”, an acronym of the co-hosts Gabon and Equatorial Guinea, is a major step towards the anticipated kick-off of the tournament.

“CAF Honorary Vice President, General Séyi Memène will represent the Confederation at the ceremony. Officials of the Local Organising Committees of the two countries are also expected to be present at the historic ceremony,” the statement said.

The draw for the tournament will take place on Saturday, October 29 in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.

The final tournament will be held from 21 January to 12 February, 2012.

Ghana’s Black Stars must avoid defeat against Sudan in their ultimate Group I qualifier on October 9 to seal their ticket for the tournament.

The Black Stars were losing finalists at the 2010 edition held in Angola last January.
