Arsenal’s Emmanuel Frimpong snubs England for Ghana, ready to apply to FIFA for switch

Ghanaian-born and Arsenal’s midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong has pledged to play for Ghana rather than England where he played for the Under-16 and 17 sides – this sparked a lot of controversy suggesting that Ghana had lost the midfielder to England.

But Frimpong, 19, tweeted today September 6, 2011 that “I have done my part for the love of the country now lets wait and see the outcome” after meeting with Ghana FA officials in the UK.

Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi, President of the Ghana Football Association who confirmed to the UK Guardian about Frimpong’s move said “Yesterday we met him after the game at Fulham at a hotel. He wants to play for Ghana. We have to apply to Fifa now – send them the documentation and wait. It is out of my hands how long they will take, but with my experience [of these matters] I expect no longer than three months and it will probably be shorter than that.”

The in-form Arsenal player had earlier said “If Ghana calls me, I will ride my own bicycle from England to Ghana.”
