Former assembly members appeal for motorbikes from government

Some former Assembly members of the 2006-2010 batch in the Upper West Region have appealed to the government to consider allocating to them motorbikes it procured for distribution to the current Assembly members throughout the country.

In a press statement issued and signed by 10 members from the district assemblies of the 2006-2010 batches in Wa on Tuesday, appealed to the government to allocate the bikes to them first before looking for some for the current assembly members.

They said they were consulted and asked by the assemblies to register for the motorbikes in 2007-2008 to facilitate their movement and other official duties but the motorbikes came at a time many of them had been voted out of the assemblies.

The former members said they used their private means of transport to run the activities of the various electoral areas and it was their hope to receive the motorbikes to replace their old motorbikes that were used during their tenure of office.

“We consider our request for the motorbikes as a genuine one as that will give recognition to the contributions that members made for the socio-economic development of Ghana at the grassroots and government must not therefore denied us of the motorbikes,” they said.
