DCE urges locals to complement government projects with self initiated ones

Nana Louis Akatta, District Chief Executive (DCE) of the newly created Biakoye District in the Volta Region has appealed to local communities to initiate projects to supplement those undertaken by government.

He said spirited efforts of the communities to get some of their needs could draw the attention of development agencies other than government to come their help.

Nana Akatta was addressing delegates from 15 communities forming the Bumbula-Adenkeusua Electoral Area, who congregated at the instance of Mr Samuel Genya, Assemblyman for the area, to meet and discuss development issues with the DCE.

Nana Akatta said while the Assemblyman for the area could be doing his best to bring development to the area, some local initiatives were necessary as the Assembly’s resources were limited.

Mr Genya said the meeting, the first of its kind in the district, was to bring community leaders under one roof to discuss development needs of the area.

The meeting later broke into committees and came out with the pressing needs of the area including potable water, tackling bilharzia, solar energy for lights and the menace of Fulani herdsmen along the Volta Lake.
