Motor trailers, a nuisance to Wa residents – Road Safety Commission

Mr. Suleiman Abdul-Karim, the Upper West Regional Manager of the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC), has observed that the use of motor trailers in the Wa Municipality was becoming a nuisance to residents, and a violation of traffic regulations.

He said the NRSC was worried because the use of motor trailers, which had been introduced recently to replace push trucks, posed danger to other road users, and resulted in accidents in the Municipality.

Mr. Abdul-Karim in an interview with Ghana News Agency in Wa on Monday, said the users of the motor trailers did not receive training on how to operate the trailers.

He said users overloaded the motor trailers and sped in the market and created incontinence to traders.

Mr. Abdul-Karim said motor trailers were also used in carrying human beings which was against road safety regulations.

He said the Commission in collaboration with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority had caused an announced to be made on radio stations asking all users of motor trailers to approach the two bodies for training but to no avail.

Mr. Abdul-Karim said the Commission had arranged to meet the leadership of the motor trailer operators to ensure sanity on the road.

He said after the meeting, the police would be asked to enforce traffic regulations to regulate activities of motor trailers.
