Two robbers gunned down by Police

The Police on Sunday night gunned down two suspected robbers at the Obetsibi Lamptey Circle after they had snatched handbags belonging to two victims.

Briefing the media in Accra, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Rose Bio Atinga said the suspects were said to have engaged the Police in a fierce gun battle.

According to DCOP Atinga, the two suspects who were yet to be identified had an accomplice who escaped from the scene.

DCOP Atinga, who is the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, told the media that one handbag containing five mobile phones and wrist watches believed to belonging to the victims were found on the suspects.

Meanwhile, DCOP Atinga said two locally manufactured pistols, two empty cartridges, live cartridges and two sharp machetes have been retrieved from the robbers.

She said the Police were making frantic efforts to arrest the third suspect, now at large.

In another development, the Police have nabbed three persons suspected to be attacking and robbing the residents of Giga, near Kwashieman.

Aziz Musah, a 21-year-old unemployed, Baba Sally a 23-year-old painter, Stephen Gletsu a 22-year-old unemployed, conducted their robbery operations with unregistered motorbikes and machetes.

DCOP Atinga said the two unregistered motor bikes and two machetes have been retrieved by the Police.

The Regional Commander commended informants who provided the police with vital information and pledged the commitment of the Police to keep the identity of informants.

According to her the Police alone could not win the battle of crime if the public did not provide the Police with vital information.

She therefore pleaded with the public to assist the police to arrest one Rabiu aka Rabi who is said to be involved in the recent robbery at the Accra Mall Ecobank.
