Tamale GPRTU calls for roads upgrading

Alhaji Amado Lamusa, the Northern Regional Chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), has called on government to help improve the roads in the region.

He said if adequate steps were not taken to alleviate the situation the Union would be compelled either stop using the roads or unilaterally increase the fare charges.

Alhaji Lamusa made the appeal in an interview with the GNA at a Regional Council Meeting held in Tamale.

He described majority of the roads in the region including the Yendi-Bimbila-Pandi, Tamale-Gushegu-Karaga, and Fufulsu-Damango-Swala, as being in deplorable states.

Alhaji Lamusa said many farming communities in the region produce lots of cereals and tubers which were often transported to the south and improving the road networks would greatly aid the work of the farmers.

All four aspirants who contested for the positions of Regional Chairman, Regional Vice Chairman, Regional First and Second Trustee of the Union were returned unopposed.

They are Alhaji Amadu Lamusa, Mr Henry Caster Haffiz, Chief Seidu Amadu.

Mr Ernest Tham, National Secretary of GPRTU, who led them to take the oath of office entreated the new executives to work hard to help develop the Union.
