Star of the Sea Catholic Church to construct GH¢2m parish hall

Management of Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Dansoman is to construct a multipurpose Parish hall at an estimated cost of GH¢ 2,000,000 as part of its silver jubilee anniversary celebrations.

The proposed hall is expected to serve as a place for social gatherings and also help generate income since it would have offices and other facilities for rent.

Mr George Musey, the Chairman of the Planning Committee, said this at the launch of the silver jubilee celebration of the church on the theme: “Arise, Shine out for light has come, the glory of Yahweh is rising on you”, in Dansoman over the weekend.

“We realized that as a church we have no meeting places except under trees and classrooms, the furniture of which is not well suited for adults, meanwhile our funerals and weddings are all held outdoors exposing us to the elements of the weather,” he said.

He said the church does not envisage starting the project and completing it within some few years given the nature of the design and the purpose for which it would be used.

“In the meantime whatever fund that is raised would be invested as they go through all the technical and pre-contract stages of the project,” Mr Musey added.

He said there is a yearlong programme put in place for the celebration of the anniversary including workshops on the liturgy, marriage, sacrament of reconciliation and pastoral care, musical festival, pastoral visits, photo exhibition and local and international pilgrimages.

He appealed to members to contribute generously to the implementation of the project and called on the youth to volunteer to serve on committees to be formed later to manage the celebration.

Mr Musey said the climax of the celebration would be on 19th August 2012 where deserving members and non-members of the church would be awarded for their contribution to the development of the church.

Star of the Sea Catholic Church was established on 2nd August, 1987 with about 20 members and now has a membership of 2000.
