Police to be in buses to stem highway robbery

Government will soon ensure that police personnel are placed in every bus to check the increasing rate of highway robbery.

“This would also minimize the number of road accidents and check over speeding by some drivers in the country.”

This was disclosed by Dr Kwasi Akyem Apea-Kubi, the Eastern Regional Minister, when he presented a police patrol car to the Kukurantumi police command on behalf of President John Evans Atta Mills, on Friday.

Dr Apea-Kubi disclosed that government was concerned about the fatal plights of travellers and drivers in recent times and was therefore facilitating measures to fight the highway robbery soon.

“The number of policemen for every bus will not be disclosed now but we will all know when the decision is finally put in the public domain” he said.

Dr Apea-Kubi said the President Mills-led administration had come to offer maximum security, to ensure a peaceful atmosphere for every Ghanaian and that it was the reason why the President had presented a patrol car to the police to fight crime at Kukurantumi.

He said the gesture exhibited by the President was in fulfillment of his promise to adequately equip the security forces in the country to fight crime and therefore charged the police to ensure proper maintenance of the car.

Dr Apea-Kubi appealed to Ghanaians to rally behind President Mills to ensure an atmosphere of peace that is free from robbery, killing and general crimes.

Nana Daasebre Boamah Darko II, Omanhene of Kukurantumi, thanked President Mills on behalf of his people and promised to work hand-in-hand with the police in the area to ensure proper maintenance of the car and also to make sure the car was used for fighting crime.

He said the quick gesture exhibited by President Mills showed that he was truly a father and listens to all.

Daasebre Darko II, called on natives of Kukurantumi, Corporate Organizations and philanthropists to come to assist in building a hospital and other social amenities in the area.
