Ghana government urged to resource National Youth Authority

Curious Minds, an NGO, has expressed concern about the absence of an Action Plan to operationalise the National Youth Policy (NYP), which was launched last year.

It said the situation has led to very little awareness of the Policy among the youth and resulted in inadequate resource allocation to NYP, which is tasked with the responsibility of coordinating the implementation of the policy.

According to the NGO, the Action Plan would outline comprehensive strategies, projects and activities, with respect to immediate short, medium and long term, and a budget line that would achieve its desired objectives.

A statement signed by Mr Kinsley Obeng-Kyereh, Executive Coordinator of Curious Minds and copied to the Ghana News Agency to commemorate the International Youth Day (IYD).

Mr Obeng-Kyereh said to harness the potential of Ghana, the youth needed to comprehensively engage in all levels of development.

IYD is celebrated every year on August 12, to recognise the efforts of the world’s youth in enhancing global society.

This year’s celebration is on the theme “Change Our World”, aimed at promoting ways to engage the youth in becoming more actively involved in making positive contributions to their communities.

The statement urged government to provide adequate resources and capacity building to the National Youth Authority to engage the youth in a framework of a comprehensive, workable, result based and time-bound Action Policy.

It called on civil society, traditional authorities and religious bodies to incorporate youth development concerns in all aspects of their work.
