High Speed Vessel Swift (HSV 2) will dock at the shores of the Sekondi Port on August 14, 2011 as part of its Africa Partnership Station (APS) 2011, a statement from the US Embassy in Accra has said.

During the visit, the Swift vessel will be a venue for instructional training for some forces of the Ghana Navy.

The training which is expected to strengthen the maritime capabilities of the Ghanaian naval forces, will focus on “Expeditionary Combat First Aid and Maintenance Management,” according to officials at the Embassy.

The HSV-2 SWIFT is an Australian built, privately-owned, privately-operated vessel that has been militarized for the US Navy.

“It is a 321.5 ft, shallow-draft, high-speed catamaran capable of going in excess of 40 knots while carrying a cargo package equivalent to 10 C-17s,” the statement added.
