Kwesi Nyantakyi - GFA Boss

The West Africa Football Union (WAFU) will hold its Extraordinary General Assembly today, Saturday, August 13, 2011 at the Alisa Hotel, Accra.

Information gathered by GNA Sports gathers that the highest decision making body of the zonal body will discuss developing issues including the separation of the zonal Union.

The Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) at its last meeting, May in Cairo, Egypt, decided that the Zonal Union be segmented into two zones.

Cape Verde, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Mali, Mauritania, Senegal and Sierra Leone make up Zone West A with Benin, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Liberia, Niger, Nigeria and Togo in Zone West B.

Kwesi Nyantakyi, President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) was elected interim President of the zonal body which was constituted by West African countries at an emergency meeting in Gambia last April.

This follows the suspension of predecessor Dr Amos Adamu by world soccer governing body, Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) due to his alleged involvement in a World Cup hosting bribery scandal.
