Two bank robbers arrested in Cape Coast
The Cape Coast Police Command last Friday arrested two men suspected to have robbed the University of Cape Coast (UCC) branch of the Agriculture Development Bank (ADB) of GH¢75, 077.20.
They are Emmanuel Abrokwah, 28, staff of Gecrest Security Services attached to the bank, and David Justice Koufie a 25-year-old student.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Stephen Ampah-Kwofie, Central Regional Police Commander, confirmed the arrest to GNA in Cape Coast on Monday.
He said the UCC branch of the ADB on April 10, 2011 lodged a complaint of theft at the bank to the police.
DCOP Ampah-Kwofie said that the police starting monitoring activities of the suspects at the bank and on August 6 they were arrested at their hide-out in Cape Coast following a tip-off.
He said a third suspect is suspected to have fled to South Africa.
DCOP Ampah-Kwofie commended the public for volunteering information leading to the arrest of the two suspects.
In a related development, two Nigerians Michael Ndu, 35, and Chinedu Dike, 28, were on Saturday arrested for stealing 280, 000 CFA belonging to Ivorian woman, Madam Bamba Makeme, on Elubo-Accra bound bus.
According to the Regional Police Commander Madam Bamba Makeme, who kept the money in her brassier, sat close to the suspects in the bus.
DCOP said the woman slept in the course of the journey and the suspects stole the money and alighted from the bus at the Cape Coast Goil Rest Stop.
He said that the complainant realized that her money was stolen when the vehicle got to Moree, a suburb of Cape Coast, and she reported the matter to the driver of the vehicle.
DCOP Ampah-Kwofie said when the driver returned to the Goil Rest Stop to look for the suspects, he (driver) was told that the two suspects had left the place by a hired a taxi.
He said a message was sent to the police at check points along the Takoradi-Accra road and the two were arrested at Nchaban near Takoradi.
DCOP Ampah-Kwofie said 195,000 CFA was retrieved from the suspects and they admitted stealing the money from Madam Bamba.
He appealed to the public to immediately alert the police of theft and robbery cases instead of reporting to the media as their first point of contact.
