It is refreshing news that an ICT centre for learning will be commisioned on August 10, 2011 at Ningo. It is going to be commisioned by no less a person than Paul Boateng, former British High Commisioner to South Africa.

There are going to be ten of such ICT centers. And it is a collaboration of MTN and UNDP that is making this possible.MTN is giving back to society what it has gained from it, in terms of patronage of its products. A commendable synergy from the two institutions.

To get somebody of the stature of Paul Boateng to commision the centre is of strategic importance. By his stature, he will draw attention to the programme. Without a doubt he will reiterate the necessity of the computer as a tool of development. He is an appropriate person for disseminating the knowledge revolution, given his experience.

In current times, the centrality of the computer( for that matter the internet) in our lives can’t be gainsaid. Yet in our parts of the world we are lagging behind in access to the internet. So it is joyous news for the ICT centre to be commisioned in Ningo.

Certainly the internet is an amazing resource man has configured. With it one can gain so much information in diverse fields of endeavour.Students could access their examination results from the internet. They could download application forms from the internet for admission/examination purposes. They could run courses online. The internet opens up the world to users.

The people of Ningo will be given the opportunity to advertize the town to the world.Businessmen should be able to do business online.

The MTN and UNDP ICT facility drive is a step in the right direction. They deserve the encouragement of all. This collaboration should be a shining example and encouragement to other bodies corporate.
