Politicians urged to refrain from politics of insults

Apostle Dr Opoku Onyinah, Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, has entreated politicians to refrain from insulting each other and concentrate on accelerating the growth and development of the economy.

He made the call in a sermon he delivered to dedicate a GH¢367,235.40 three-storey office complex for the Sunyani area church of Pentecost in Sunyani on Friday.

Apostle Dr Onyinah expressed regret that, “the country is endowed with all the resources to be self reliant, but leaders still call for support from the western world because corruption has eaten deep into the fibre of the economy”.

He said through the effective and efficient usage of resources and dedication by members, the Pentecost Church had more than 70 Junior High Schools, three Senior High Schools, six clinics, a hospital and a university college.

“If the church can single handily achieve this without borrowing, then the country can be independent from foreign aid and developing through the effective and efficient use of resources,” he said.

He noted that political leaders instead of taking strategic decisions in developing the country for the betterment of the people they wasted ample time on the media “throwing insults at each other”.

Apostle Dr Opoku Onyinah said the attitude and practices of politicians had forced many Ghanaians, especially the youth, who are the core of the nation’s human resource, to leave the country for greener pastures abroad.

The Chairman appealed to Government officials, political leaders and heads of public institutions to be dedicated to their work, accountable to the people and desist from ungodly practices.

“I did not come to create beggars but came to make people the sons of God”, he quoted James Mckeown, founder of the Pentecost Church and entreated church members to make judicious use of their resources and desist from borrowing.

He called on all Christians to be agents of change in the homes, church, workplace, and where ever they find themselves for a better Ghana.

Mr Nyamekye Marfo, Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, in a speech read for him, acknowledged the Church of Pentecost as a reliable partner in the development of the nation.

He called on the clergy to always preach peace needed for development.

Mr. Michael Gyamfi, Director, Regional Co-coordinating Council, cut the tape and Mrs. Grace Opoku Onyinah unveiled the plaque.
