Amitlaw aims to develop local expertise for Ghana’s oil sector
Ghana became an oil producing country on December 15, 2010 and one of the major targets for the government and other stakeholders is to develop local content for the sector. This means that most Ghanaians and local businesses to be empowered to get involved in all areas of the oil and gas sector as much as possible.
Local content can however be achieved effectively through training of Ghanaians and one training institution that is set to contribute to that is the Amitlaw Professional Development Centre (APDC). The Centre is now enrolling students for its internationally recognized hybrid Professional Diploma programmes in Oil and Gas, Shipping and Logistics – a combination of online session provided by the Lloyd’s Maritime Academy (LMA) and the IBC Global Academy of London, UK and classroom session to be provided by APDC.
A sister company of Amitlaw Consulting – experts in maritime law, petroleum commodities and international trade and Amitlaw Shipbrokerage Company Limited -, APDC has brought together industry and subject matter experts to provide the classroom tutoring session in all the courses.
Mr. Gibson Keteku, the Courses Coordinator of the Centre, told ghanabusinessnews.com that the institution has been granted the license to provide these courses in oil and gas, shipping and Logistics for participants in all the countries of the West African sub-region.
“We are currently the only Institution in the world licensed by LMA / IBG Global Academy to offer these courses in the hybrid form, ” he said.
According to Mr. Keteku, the online aspect of the courses would be provided by the LMA / IBG Global Academy and the Amitlaw Centre would provide the classroom session allowing for flexibility to suit students’ daily routine, while they obtain high quality education. He added that each course takes 12 months to complete.
He said that students can qualify for the internationally recognized Professional Diploma in any of the following courses ; Oil and Gas Management, Offshore oil and Gas Production, Terminal Management, Ship Management, Logistics Management and Ship Finance.
According to Mr. Keteku, the maiden edition of the programme would begin in September 2011 and thus registration was already in progress.
