Government presents GH¢45,000 worth equipment to Korle-Bu Hospital Burns Centre

Nii Armah Ashietey, Greater Accra Regional Minister on Monday on behalf of the Government presented four Patient Monitors estimated at about GH¢45,000 to the Burns Centre of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.

The equipment is to assist the centre to provide quality health care to the remaining two casualties of the recent Ashiaman gas explosion.

He said the equipment was to support the centre in its efforts to save patients, and that Government was prepared to provide the needed support to ensure quality healthcare delivery in the country.

Nii Ashietey noted that most accidents were due to negligence and ignorance on the part of victims, and cautioned the people to exercise care so they could avoid accidents in the communities.

“We need to ensure that when we are dealing with inflammable and hazardous items we know how, when and where to use them to avoid accidents,” he said.

Nii Ashietey commended medical personnel at the centre for their relentless efforts and the concern exhibited towards the victims, and assured them of Government’s support to improve on their performance.

Dr Opoku-Ware Ampoma, Director of the Reconstructive Surgery Unit who received the equipment noted that over the years, gas explosion accidents had increased and that about 80 per cent of such cases were due to the carelessness of individuals.

He said the centre since its establishment in 1997 had provided quality expertise in reconstruction of burns and would continue to work hard to maintain its status and provide the needed care to patients.

Dr Ampoma expressed gratitude to Government for the equipment and said the centre would ensure they were well maintained to prolong their life-span.
