Political intolerance is not healthy for Ghana’s democracy – Assemblyman

Mr James Owusu Barnes, Assemblyman for Agona Kwanyako-Odumase-Arhorso Electoral Area, has said political intolerance and insulting opponents are not healthy our democratic dispensation.

He pointed out that accepting diverse views is the best way to enhance democratic growth, which could promote our economic independence.

Mr Owusu Barnes said these when he addressed the Second Biennial Conference of the Winneba Diocese Women’s Fellowship of the Methodist Church Ghana, at Agona Kwanyako.

He said the country’s democratic dispensation could be deepened if politicians and their followers would accept each other’s views to reduce political tension, which is mounting in the country.

Mr Owusu Barnes, who is a Water Engineer and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Aqua Works Company, urged Christian women fellowships to critical roles in counselling and prayer to help address the issue of homosexuality.

He appealed to Christians and Muslims to pray for the Ghana as it prepared towards the 2012 elections to ensure peace and stability.

The Assemblyman urged the women to give priority to Girl-Child Education.

Mrs Beatrice Ocran of the Gomoa Tarkwa Circuit of the Church was elected the new President of the Winneba Diocese fellowship.

She urged her colleagues to work hard to improve their welfare and said the fellowship would soon embark on programmes to educate the women on their health, Girl-Child Education, business and some home management practices to help improve their living standard.
