Oguaaman Street League programme launched

The Cape Coast Metropolitan Chief Executive, Mr Anthony Aikins has appealed to citizens of the Metropolis to support the Oguaa ‘Football for Hope’ Centre to achieve its goals.

The centre, a FIFA Project is part of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa package designed to promote health education and football in disadvantaged communities across Africa.

Mr Aikins who made the appeal at the launch of the Oguaaman Street League which will commence in August, in Cape Coast, noted that the standard of soccer in the Metropolis had declined and hoped the project will go a long way to help recapture its past glory as a centre of soccer.

Mr Sam Brew Butler, Chairman of Oguaaman Football for Hope Centre and the former Ghana Football Association boss who chaired the function, said football was now being used as conduit for the promotion of education, health and peaceful co-existence.

He therefore encouraged the Oguaaman Street League Committee to ensure that the Centre grows to become a museum piece for tourist attraction and commended the management of Mfantsipim Senior High School for donating land for the project.

Mr Wahab Musah, Manager of the Centre said Football for Hope is a movement that uses the power of football for social development.

He said the project which seeks to harness support to address education and health challenges in underserved communities across Africa came into force after the historic 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Mr Rex Danquah, an executive member of the Committee later inaugurated a 10 member Committee for the Centre.
