Cocoa merchant lauds efforts of farmers

The District Officer of Cocoa Merchants, a licensed cocoa buying company at Duakwa, in the Central Region, has commended cocoa farmers for their contribution towards the sustenance of the company.

Mr Randy Nkrumah said the company had made strives over the years and expressed the hope of increasing its target to significant tonnage.

He was speaking at a meeting of cocoa farmers at Akroso in the Birim Central Municipality, at the close of the main crop season, at the weekend.

The District Officer noted that farmers doing brisk business with the Duakwa Office/Depot of cocoa merchant company, worked diligently and assiduously to help increase production.

According to Mr Nkrumah the need to support cocoa farmers in the area, has been a top priority for any buying company here, adding that, the cocoa merchant has put in place measures aimed at assisting farmers to boost their production, by supplying them with agro-chemicals and other logistics.

The District Officer urged farmers to follow the right procedures for drying cocoa beans, to help the country to maintain its status as one of the leading producers of quality cocoa beans in the world.

Mr Moses Ashmond, the local chairman of Purchasing Clerks of the company, enjoined the cocoa merchant company to institute incentive schemes for its clerks, to spur them on to work hard.
